Mayors Support Gas-Tax Increase if Cities Get Additional Funds

A large majority of mayors nationwide would support an increase in the federal gas tax only if more funds are provided directly to cities and metropolitan planning organizations, according to a survey released Tuesday by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.The survey found 93% of respondents would be in favor of policy changes increasing the metropolitan areas’ share of federal funding. Only 7% of those surveyed would support a gas-tax increase without any such changes.
