AASHTO Journal, 28 October 2011

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn this week announced the appointment of Ann L. Schneider as secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation. Schneider has served as acting secretary of IDOT since July 2011.Prior to her appointment, Schneider served as IDOT’s chief of operations, responsible for managing and overseeing the department’s six offices and four divisions. Schneider also spent five years as director and chief financial officer for IDOT’s Office of Finance and Administration. Before joining IDOT, Schneider was the chief fiscal officer for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and in the Governor’s Office of Management and Budget. Schneider has a bachelor’s degree from Augustana College and a master’s degree in public administration from Sangamon State University (now University of Illinois-Springfield).

The Illinois Road & Transportation Builders Association released a statement supporting Schneider’s appointment.

“Schneider has brought a broad knowledge of IDOT and its relationships with its industry partners to the table. She has done an exemplary job in reaching out to industry during her tenure as acting secretary, since her appointment to that role in July 2011,” the IRTBA statement said. “Her experience in state government and expertise in transportation are sorely needed to ensure that IDOT continues to deliver services to Illinois citizens in a professional and cost-effective manner.”
