The leaders of two key Senate committees sent a letter Thursday to all members of Congress urging them to support immediate action on a federal surface transportation reauthorization bill that maintains funding at existing levels.Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairwoman Barbara Boxer, D-California; and Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee Chairman Tim Johnson, D-South Dakota, implored their colleagues to prevent the imminent loss of some 630,000 jobs.
